I have recently purchased an SC that the owner said he brushed hogged with, and it started knocking, so he shut it off right away, and let it sit for about a year. I havn't looked into it very close, but noticed the front pulley is crooked, and has a set bolt. Is this pulley pressed on, and could that be the knock? I am unfamiliar with case tractors, but like this tractor so I bought it. I currently own a 23 fordson f, 47 ford 8n, IH H, and an unstyled AC WC.

Hi Terry,

The pulley you are speaking of with the adjustable side is the water pump pulley. The adjustment bolt is so that either you can use a different width belt, or make it so a longer belt rides in the correct position on the pulley if you can't get the adjustment you need by moving the generator alone.

As far as your knock question- I can't answer you. If it's crooked, then you should be able to tell if it's hitting. I know the fan blade tolerances are pretty close on my '49 SC... but a fan hitting doesn't sound like an engine knock.

Let us know what you find out.

Happy Tractoring! -Schotte

Mike, I wasn't clear on which pulley. This is the crank shaft pulley. It looks like It's pressed onto the crank with a set bolt on the side that tightens against the crank. Thanks, Terry (IN)
