I cannot find any information on old Case O Matic tranny's. Does anyone have or know how to get good reviews, information and specs on them? Thanks, Paul

Paul I have a Case service manual with a section on the testing/repair of the Case O Matic transmission.I would be happy to scan the 16 or so pages and e-mail them,I just have to figure out how to make my scanner work in Windows 2k,the updated drivers dont seem to work.

Thanks for the reply Terrance. I am going to buy an 801 diesel Case O Matic. It is leaking a light weight oil out of one axle (hydraulic?), which is unusual since that seal on the axle should be holding back gear box oil. I've never owned a Cases with a Case O Matic transmission and would like to understand how it works and what common problems are. Tell me when you can email back the pages. Thanks Again, Paul

The hydraulic system, the Case o matic, and torque tube, all share the same oil along with the shuttle gear box and dual/triple range gear box.The 4 speed transaxle is seperate and uses its own oil (usually 80-90 wt). There are seals between the transaxle and the torque tube where the shafts go through to stop oil transfer between the two systems. If one of theses seals are bad it will cause mixing of the oil and the oil level in the transaxle will become overfull as the torque tube has a higher oil level, this cause it to seep past the axle and the pto seals.Another cause of mixing of the oil is a blocked breather in the torque tube, they need to be cleaned every once in a while if not pressure can build up and force the oil past the seals. The other possibility is leaking O-rings in the lift cylinder for the 3pth,if the O-rings are leaking oil will seep past the pipe plug at the front of the lift cylinder and mix with the transaxle oil( test for leaking O-rings by picking up a heavy load with the 3point hitch ,leave in raise position,if it leaks down then its one source of the oil transfer, fairly easy repair).I have the seal leaks in two of my case tractors I use case thc/hy-tran in the torque tube and transaxle, have for about ten years on one tractor and about 5 years on the other ,it hasnt seemed to be a problem and has saved me from splitting the tractors to replace the seals.I think that as long as you use a good grade of tractor hydraulic/transmission oil you will get the needed lubrication for the transaxle and not have any problems,I use the heavest weight I can find usually #68.Hope this helps.I think I will be able to work on the drivers for the scanner tonight if so i will email you if i have success.

My dad has a Case 830 with the Caseomatic. His transmission fills up with oil that leaks from the Caseomatic. Must be a seal between the two cases. I believe he just "deals" with it. Either adds oil to the Caseomatic or actually drains the transmission and puts it back in the Caseomatic. Anyway ..... I believe he told me something like that. Goodluck.
