On my 1948 Case SC, I am confused as to whether the positive or negative battery terminal should be connected to ground. I did not pay attention to which terminal was grounded when I removed the old battery and cables and turned them into the auto parts store for my core charge. I have heard people say that all 6-volt Case tractors of this era are positive ground, but the original Operator's manual for the tractor says, on page 35, "When removing battery terminals, remove grounded or (negative) terminal first..." This seems to imply that the negative is ground. Does anyone know for sure? And if I hook them up backwards, what is going to happen? Thanks a lot for any help

Dave, Your SC battery should be installed with the negative terminal grounded. Many other CASE tractors have a 6v positive ground system. An SC is negative ground. Unless you have a battery powered ignition system (not a mag), the only trouble you will have, if you reverse the battery polarity, is the charging system will not work correctly. It will try to charge the battery backwards. Bruce
