I have located a 970 Diesel with powershift, 4000hrs and a GB loader and duals and I'm curious what would be a reasonable price to offer. What are weak points to watch for. I need an all purpose tractor for baler, bale loader, plowing, and so on. I would appreciate any advise from you knowledgable people.

The 970's are bringing more than the 1070's and 1370's in Iowa. Probably based on being the right size and non-turbo. Big enough to do most any job but small enough to not cost an arm and leg to fix. You see them for $4000 to $7500 depending on condition. Many had bad sleeve to block deck sealing. Cracks in the upper sleeve allows antifreeze into the engine oil. Takes out the main and rod bearing. Know a guy that spent $9000 on engine rebuild as the mains needed line boring. That was 15 years ago. Tractor still running strong.
