Posted this in the pulling forum but there wasn't any help there, so will try here. My brother is considering buying a Case SC for restoration as a pulling tractor in the lighter classes. Does anyone have any experience pulling with the SC? Is it a good candidate for this or would you recommend another? Thanks.

The SC Case engine is a wet sleeved engine, so ya gotta run 'em w/stock sleeves-can't "cheat" like JD, IH & other boys do by overboring the block or running oversized pistons in a bare block. This limits the amount of added HP you can get to step headed pistons & shaving the head. They will stand lot of over-revs, but JD's will usually get 'em, cause they just have too much cast iron on them to let ya get 'em down to lower weights-my SC weighs more than 4,500 lbs w/o wheel weights. (I have always thought that the Case design engineer's father-in-law must have owned a cast iron foundary & was a-sellin cast to Case. They are way over-built compared to the others.) Case's chain drive rear ends are "bullet proof" & will take WAY MORE torque than the stock engines will put out, so if ya do figure out a way to add more HP, ya won't have to worry about that end. If every one is strickly stock (original equipment), an SC will hold its own against an H or a JD B, which it was designed to compete against in the farmer's field. (My $0.02 worth. jal-SD)

Hi Terry,

Do you know anyone who has built up an SC engine for pulling?

I have a 1947 SC that needs the engine freshened up and I would love some advice on boring, pistons, head work, carburator modifications, etc.

Any advice you can provice would be greatly appreciated.

Terry: I have a freind that pulls a SC in 3500 - 4500 classes. I do alot of the work to it. Case made the last SC's with 3 5/8 pistons in them. I have the SC in my shop right now installing a adjustable drawbar at 18" back and getting the weight down more to be able to put more on the front in 3500. It holds it own on the Florida tracks which I am sad to say is not much.

WHO EVER SAYS YOU HAVE TO STAY WITH STOCK SLEEVES IN A WET SLEAVE ENGINE DOESNT KNOW JACK ABOUT ENGINE BUILDING! A GOOD SC CAN RUN 75HP WITH SOME BORE AND STROKE. AN SC IS HEAVY 3500LBSIS BORDERLINE. GET OUT THE BORING BAR AND SHOW EM!
