Hello all,
Today while I was out I spotted a 930 for sale. I've never seen another like it. It's much "squattyer" than a normal 930 with big oversize orange fenders. It's LPgas; I was under the impression that all 30s were diesel? No original 3point hitch (just some sort of homemade mess), Pto. I didn't have long to look for a serial #, where would I find it? Lastly, if it is a western, how many of these things were made? I've never seen one but I don't travel much.

I just bought a 930 western tractor on propane the one you seen has to be a western with the fenders that you described. The serial number should be on a tage located below the dash on the left hand side. The western 930s are my favorite. Hope this helps.

Well Scott, out here in the Canadian West we do not see any of the row crop version so Western Special's are all that were brought in to the dealers. The three point hitch was not necessay as no row crop work was done . Most of them had a PTO but not all. They were designed to pull and with a set of built in hydraluics they were hooked to wheeled cultivators , press drills , discs and such and there are still a lot in service today. Most were diesel but some were gassers with a few using LPG. The front axle on the western special was back under the tractor to turn shorter. Some were six speed, chain drive rear ends with either a foot or hand clutch and the newer ones had an eight speed trans. We still have two six speed 930's that we use for just about anything around the farm . They pull well, easy to fix, lots of spare parts around and run all day on a few gallons of fuel. Looking through the archives I have seen some row crop versions that looked foreign to me.

Many thanks for your reply. I took an interest in the tractor as my family ran several 30s on the farm years ago. (before my time) and always talked about them with respect. Standard type tractors are not that common in Arkansas with the possible exceptions of Rice specials etc. A hangup in my mind is the LP part. I would prefer a diesel. I guess it doesn't matter much for a hobby tractor. Perhaps I can get a price break. (8
