I have a gas case o matic 730. When I try to put it into gear it grinds. I took it up to the case dealer and they said that the clutch pack was put in wrong. When they put it in the right way it still grinds. Are there any suggestions to what it might be?

I have a 630 CaseOmatic that grinds when shifting to any gear when hot. Shifts smooth as silk in the winter when I'm plowing snow. I thought it might be a viscosity problem w/ the type A automatic tranny fluid so I drained it and replaced it w/ Case TCH fluid, didn't make any diference. I&T shop manual suggest warped or damage clutch disc. Can't imagine why it would shift smooth in the winter though.

Mine grinds too. I have the best luck if getting it into third gear, then quickly shifting to what ever gear I want to use.

Hope that dealer didn't charge you too much for nothing. Did they put automatic transmission fluid in your case-o-matic? That is what seems to work the best in that system. Another thing is to make sure you have the engine at a slow idle before you shift it.

make sure they used CASE TCH oil, not case hy-tran oil.

Perhaps one of you Case 730 fellows can help me. I have a 530 Diesel (Case-o-Matic) that someone has done a conversion on. The insruments and dash section has been replaced with the instrument cluster of a 730 and the wiring converted to match the 730. The weather has now thoroughly destroyed the 730 cluster and there are some fried wires too. So when I set out to rewire the rig, after evicting the yellowjackets under there, I made the discovery that the instrument cluster and wiring and all is no longer 530. Checked with my local Case dealer where I learned that the instrumen cluster etc. is 730, but about the only manual he doesn't have is the one for the 730. Could someone possibly e-mail or copy and mail the electrical schematic from their 730 manual to me. Also if anyone knows of a salvaged instrument cluster available I'd appreciate the lead.

Thanks, Wayne S.
