Max, thank you for your speedy reply yesterday. However, I errored in the question / problem!!! The problem is this: While driving the tractor DOWN HILL, it won't hold back, just free wheels down hill. Whats the deal???? Any ideas whould be great. Thanks in adv

There is a detent valve that was added as standard equiptment in 85. My 448 had it. I know it could be added to the older tractors but not sure how far back. You might get some answers by going to the Case/Colt/Ingersoll garden tractor forum or contacting Ingersoll directly. Ingersoll-inc.com

The 442 didn't get this valve. This particular unit requires the hydraulic lock valve that bolts onto the hydraulic drive motor. The valve became standard in 81 due to the prior complaints. Earlier models like the Colts and when case first took over the Colt had the hydraulic lock valve as standard equipment. You might find one at a hydraulic house but be prepared to know how to spec it out or maybe by chance an Ingersol dealer can obtain one, if not, just update with the later valve assembly.
