I have a chance to buy 630 diesel. has brand new tires front and rear, sheet metal is in good condition, no instrument cluster, regular 3 point. When I looked at the tractor it was around 45 degrees outside and the engine fired right up. The wiring is all messed up, he just keeps the battery charged with a charger. the 3 point hydraulics work fine. The biggest problem is when you let out the clutch it takes a few seconds before the tractor starts to move and seems like it might be slipping. I don't know much about case-o-matic tractors. Are parts still readily available for these tractors? I can get the tractor for $1000.00 but the case-o-matic transmission kinda scares me. any info would be greatly appreciated

I own 2 Case 830 tractors. One is a diesel with case-o-matic. It is slow to warm up the drive in cold weather, but works great when it warms up. The other is a gas with standard clutch. I actually like the case-o-matic better when doing jobs like baling hay.

My uncle had a 630 that he rescued from the scrap heap. Best damn tractor I have ever drove. I sure do miss it. I would give up my case 1290 and 2390
to get it back.

If you don't like the Case-O-Matic you could always convert it over to a dry clutch and still come out OK

at that price you better buy it. nothing else, you could part it out and still get your money back.

That's one of the misconceptions about the case-o-matic. Everyone thinks there's something wrong with the clutch. That'd be fine but there isn't any clutch in the system. Exept for the direct drive. The case-o-matic is a torque converter drive system. When you let the peddle out you are actually turning on a valve that lets hydraulic oil into the torque converter. When you throttle up it builds more pressure in the converter and moves the tractor. After you get it moving you pull the direct drive lever which locks up a clutch pack and puts the transmission in direct drive. If you do get this tractor you had better get a operators manual so you understand how the case-o-matic works.

Larry,

You better go back and do your homework,

case-o-matic has two clutches , and one is

controlled by the clutch pedal. the other is

the converter lockup , controlled with the

lever on the dash. The lockup clutch is in the

front of the converter and is a single fiber

disc . the main clutch is a miltiple disc

metal clutch behind the torque converter . The

oil film between the clutch plates and discs

is the cause of grinding when shifting gears.

George,
Can you clarify what you mean by "2" clutches? Is the 830 different than the 800? Never seen 2 separate clutch packs in any case-o-matic.

The caseomatic is a very dependable transmission. Sometimes when the fluid is cold they are slow to move. Check the fluid level on the caseomatic. If it is low that might be the problem. Sounds like a good price to me.

I seen a Case 430 diesel case-o-matic in a local boneyard the other day. One of very few if not the ONLY one I have ever seen. The motor was still complete to the best of my memory, and I do not remember what else may have been removed. If anyone wants to pursue this, please e-mail me at bauza@egyptian.net
