Case 310B torque tube oil level

I was recently given a Case 310B tractor. It has the triple range transmission as well as the eagle claw 3pt. After draining and filling the torque tube with the recommended amount of fluid I had significant amounts of fluid leaking from the bottom of the bell housing. The amount of fluid that was drained out was only about 1/2-2/3 what was recommended. Based on the above scenario I am assuming there is a bad seal at the front of the torque tube. My question is how much of a risk am I taking if I don't repair this seal? I assume the fluid would only leak down to shaft level. The tractor isn't in the greatest shape and I got it for nothing so I'm debating whether it's worth the expense and time and effort to try to repair this or if I can just live with it. Besides, who knows how long it was running with this situation previously. Anyway, any help from some of you Case experts would be greatly appreciated.

There should be a dipstick in the tripple range cover at the right front or on the side.

When I first got the tractor the dip-stick appeared to be broken off. I made a new dip-stick with hi and low marks from measurements given to me by another user of this forum with the same tractor. Based on this the oil level since it has leaked down is below the low mark and it probably isn't done leaking out yet. This leads me back to my original question. If the seal is bad as I am assuming and the oil leaks down to the level of the shaft seal is it that big of a deal to run it like this? For all I know it may have been run like this for years before I got the tractor based on the amount of oil that drained out.

Steve ,
I can't remember who , but I did give someone here the dip stick measurements . There are two seals in the front of the torque tube , one in the cover that retains the input shaft and hyd pump drive shaft, that one seals the hyd pump shaft, the second one is inside the back of pump drive shaft to seal the oil from comming out along the clutch shaft . If the first one leaks the oil will go and not likely hurt the clutch , if the second one leaks it will put the oil into the clutch cover assembly and more than likely make the clutch slip . tractor is not difficult to split to fix the leak. Only one thing to remember , if the release bearing looks like it is on backwards it is properly installed. the hard face of the bearing goes to the release fork not to the fingers on the cover assembly .

Thanks for the info George. I believe you are the one who gave me the dip stick measurements. Anyway, since I put more oil in the torque tube the clutch has begun to slip a little so it probably is the second seal you talk about. Anyway I maybe will have to consider splitting the tractor. It wouldn't be so bad but there is a loader on the tractor that I imagine would have to be removed also. Anyway thanks again.

It should not hurt anything. Just make sure ther is plenty of oil in it. If it gets any worse fix it.
