How did case get 6 speeds out of the L transmission for there newer models like the 600 and 900? Was it like a John Deere 60 with a high and low range or did they just add more gears on the main shaft and counter shaft?

It's my understanding that the L transmission went to the LA and then to the 500 with a bigger chain added somewhere along the way. When they made the 600 they took the 500 and added a bolt on cover to the left side of the transmission case to get 2 more gears by using longer shafts with more gears on them. 900 the same as 600 in the tranny.
