This weekend I looked at a Case 540 with loader and backhoe. It is a diesel that has set for a year outside. It was abandoned when the clutch went and the owner walked off in disgust. The hoe and loader look good. What would I be into for a clutch. He wants 4000 for the machine. Should I run or take a chance? I am considering devoting a few hours to starting it and seeing if everything else does work. Any input or assistance would be greatly appreciated. You guys are an awesome resource.

There was a 530 backhoe listed in the classifieds a few days ago that had a hole in the block for $2000

Hi, 540 is gas Utility tractor and 530 is diesel. I wonder if the engine was changed? The diesel is 2" longer, where did they make up the 2 inches? Whats the loader & hoe model number? You would either remove the hoe and roll the rear half to split or support the loader and roll it with the front half. To pull the engine, support the loader & remove counter weight (approx 900 lbs), front axle & steering casting. I agree that you want to look closer before you decide....Dennis.....
