I was hoping someone here could tell me what this tractor would be worth? It has hydraulics to run a wood splitter. It has no other implements. Right now it's not running. I think it's a magneto problem. If anyone could tell me what this would be worth with the wood splitter that would be appreciated.

Thanks
Mike

Mike, if its a @#$% F-B mag, your probably right. (IMHO, the F-B mags that they put on the V series Case had to be the most worthless mags ever made.) We bought a '40 VC about 4 years ago that ran (but it has a bad oil leak caused by a bent plate where mag bolts on) for $275. It has descent tires all around & straight sheet metal-no hydraulics. The bent plate/elongated bolt holes should have been a clue-the mag has given fits since day one. It must have been a fluke that it ran the day of the sale & even more of a fluke that we were able to drive it home (about 12 miles) without a problem. If you leave it set for more than three days, you have to take the mag apart & clean it up to get it to run, but if you start it & let it warm up everyday, the mag will fire, most of the time.

We bought a parts VC a year ago (for the plate) for $75. It has OK sheet metal, but no rear rims or tires & steering is locked, but after we got it home, we noticed that it HAS A BATTERY IGNITION! That worthless @#$% F-B mag is going to be history one of these days! We're in SE SD. Hope this helps. (My $0.02 worth. jal-SD)

Thanks for the info. Is it a big job to clean or replace a mag on one of these tractors? I don't know too much about them.

Thanks again
Mike

Just take the cap off & clean up the points-this usually works. If you don't have a point file, you can use the "striker" pad off a paper match book for a file. That generally works pretty good to clean them up. You might want to check the point setting too. If you have to take the entire mag off, you have to make sure you get it timed when you put it back on. Directions are in the manual. Coils are hard to find if the coil is bad. We think this is our problem-coil works only part time-not usually what happens w/coils, but we've been told it can happen. (Another $0.02 worth. jal-SD)
