How much compression should a Case 1290 have? I've heard you're pretty good with DB tractors and this one has David Brown stamped on the engine block. Also, do you know what year these things were made and what their maximum speed was in road gear.

My operators manual says it will travel at 15 miles per hour with 16.9X30 rear tires. Compression is 375 to 425 psi. 1290 was built between 1980 to 1984 approx. I worked for a Case dealer between 1982 to 1989. I think the 1294 was introduced in 1984. Somebody else may correct me if i'm wrong. Memory isn't what it used to be!!! I can have a copy made up of the operators manual and the shop manual. The shop manual is pretty thick. It covers both the 1290 and the 1390. Let me know at elandman@wightman.ca

Gear box question for Elma....
I have a International case 1290 (David Brown) with cab.
The thrust bearing carraige is supported by a snout pertruding from the gear box.
My question is .....Does the top of the gear box have to come off to change the snout.
Or does it pull from the motor end. It ( the snout ) is cast iron.
regards Lou
