Can someone help. I was adjusting the top link with the 3 point in the down position & the attached equipment resting on the ground. The 3 point raised by itself & I can't get it to lower now. Every time I start the tractor the arms come up & stay up no matter where the lever is. It does have draft-o-matic.The model # is 542. Rick

Hi Rick, there is a little needle valve on the side of the hydraulic valve for the 3 point hitch. The hydraulic valve is on the right side of the seat and the hitch control moves the plunger (spool valve) in and out of it. The needle valve is toward the front and on the side. If you unscreww the needle valve (counter clockwise) the hitch should then go down when you put the control lever down.

The needle valve controls how fast the fluid will bleed out of the hitch lift cynder and can be adjusted for implement weight. Th eneedle valve may be hard to turn and you may need help from a pair of pliers. Mine has a pin thru it to turn in with. Dave in NY 845-473-0713

Hi Dave tried your suggestion but it didn't work I have the value turned the whole way out but it still raises the arms when you start it up. Even with the lever in the down position.Seems like there a value or something stuck. It seems like the pump is still trying to raise the arms after they are up. Any ideas. Rick

Hi Rick, there is a linkage from the lift lever to the plunger on the valve. Is it in good working order? Does the plunger move in and out when you move the lever up and down? If not the linkage is broken in some way. That linkage has at least one little ball swivel end that could come apart.

In addition the position of the valve is also effected by the position of the top link mechanism, it may be forcing the valve plunger in or out if it is stuck. Perhaps the top link is stuck in a forward position?

If the punger does move with lever movement there must be something wrong with the valve, valve adjustment or perhaps the oil return from the valve back to the filter housing is blocked(unlikely).

There is a section in the manual on adjusting the linkage to get the correct response from the valve. I can scan it for you and send to you. Only makes sense to do that if the plunger is actually moving in and out with the lever. Let me know. Dave.
