I have a loud noise in the rear end of my 1030 in the road side of my tranny,If I was to try and repair this myself what should I look for or is this to much for a shade tree mech to try.I need this tractor on the farm but not sure what wrong with it .May be it would be best to just swap rear ends if I could find one .Thanks for any help that you all might give,Tom O'Dowd

When that slinger quits slinging, the brass bushing in the hi-lo range gear will seize the shaft and the tractor will come to a stop while going down the road in high gear. When I got stopped I had burned my nose and my forearm on the muffler. Then you could shift into low range and go on down the road at 5 miles per hour.

What did the noise sound like?
If it was a ticking sound that means that their is a gear missing some teeth. A deep howling noise means a bad bearing

The noise is a howling noise does that tell you what bearings are bad it just does it in 3rd and 4th road gear

it has an oil slinger in case and some are alumiun and some plastic If it goes bad bearing will not get oil Get it fixed right away as mine locked up but had a wrecker tow it home ,You have to split tractor to repair which if you have right tools and level floor you can do it but would advise to think about getting some help They don,t make new slingers so will have to buy used one and most likely plastic bob
