Why does there seem to ba a lack of Case 70 series tracors in most pulling circuits? When you can start out at 504 cubes with the 1370 and bigger blocks, I'd think that would be a big advantage there from the get go. I know that you might not be able to interchange blocks with some pulling organizations, but still - it seems like there should be some potential.

I've hear that the heads don't flow too well. Is that the major part of the problem, or has there just not really been anyone out there that has been able to consistantly make one a good runner like Hypermax for IH, etc.

Thanks for any input. Just curious.

Dad worked for Case in the late 60's and early 70's. He has told me about as well as I remember going to pulls all my life. Andy Main's tractor was very heavily backed by Case to see how much pressure could be run through the powershift. With 3 turbos stacked, water injection and only turning 5000rpms they were hard to beat. They turned it over 7500 but found they got same hp at lower rpm and didn't break as much. They are very strong tractor and engine as we are making plans to install "504" guts into early 930, with turbo to pull in antique classes. Like was stated by others, most older tractors have newer sheet metal on it for sponsorship purposes. example, you can't go buy a new case 1070 but you can buy a new IH whatever.

If you look close at the big boys, NTPA, they are still using the 504, with spark plugs instead of injectors and alcohol. Very hard to beat.

JoeCool,
Could you expand on spark plugs instead of injectors & alcohol - Do you mean you no longer
have a diesel tractor - Do you still use a turbo?
Please explain,
Thanks,
bill koob

They basically change it to alcohol, put spark plugs in it, and oh yeah they are still turbo, usually 3 or 4 stacked. They are not "diesel" anymore. Check out NTPA.com and they may have info on these beast. But you can still get alot, 3000+ hp with diesel.

HI
I'm looking for a book. It's a book by and or about the history of AJ POTTER. This is the only site I could find that had anything to do with tractor pulling. If you don't have access to this book but know where I might find it please let me know.

There was a 1070 that ran in the late 70's out of Terre Haute, In. That unit ran alcohol but its been awhile so I don't remember to much except it was running the manual trans, not the power shift.

There was a 1070 with a 504 bored to oh my god pulling here in southern wis. Very competive in its class. As i rember it ran in the NTPA also badger state. But, it hide under newer sheet metal aka 7220 when it was sold for 25,000. Another local puller before switching to a componet tractor ran a 806 if i rember under newer sheetmetal. Blackburns is there name and one of the top pullers in NTPA in the class. So could be many older 70 series out there but just hideing under new tin

Most guys put a 1175 rearend under a 1370 or call it what you want. The heads flow very well. You dont see very many pull because most of the rules favor the IH and JD. Im not trying to start a color war just stating what i have seen. I have a freind who pulls a 930 the rules state a A series pump can be no bigger than 10mm. Whats the limit on the IH 13mm and there are other rules like that. Every area has diffrent rules.

There was not any drawback when Andy Main -
was running years and years ago with a 1370.
They were brand new then and were competitive.
There was another fellow that did quite well
but cannot remember his name.
They were really striped down with most any
attachment such as 3 point hitch removed and
ran a narrow front - even plastic grill as
I remember it. (course I'm in my senior years
maybe having a senior moment)

best,
bill koob

In my opinion the 70 series were to light.
