I am in need of a voltage regulator for my mid 80's Case 446 (16hp onan engine B43M). The one I have is an epoxy sealed unit so it is not serviceable to my knowledge. The ammeter reads about 18 amps + when the engine is running. I do not want to leave it this way because I do not want to fry the battery. Is there a replacement regulator I can install or do I have to get one from my dealer ($58.00+).

Thanks Giff

If its putting out 18 amps at full throttle within five minutes of starting, the regulator is fine. I would suggest adding a ground wire to it for that is about the only problem with those units besides dirt getting in behind the flywheel.

before you replace it , make sure its grounded back in the '80's Case added a ground wire to the regulators on all the tractors. if it's got one and its clean then the regulator is shot. but if it don't have one chances are the regulator is fine just needs a better ground.. also $58. isn't bad same regulator is used on some snowmobiles and there around $90. dollars.

The only place I ever found on was at the Ingersoll dealer. Was told more than once by various parts houses that this style is unique to Case/Ingersoll.

Thanks.
