I NEED TO REPLACE THE CLUTCH AND HAVE NOT DONE ONE BEFORE.SHOULD I REMOVE THE BACKHOE AND CAB
WHICH I HEAR IS A PAIN OR IS IT POSSIBLE TO SEPERATE THE NOSE FROM THE BUCKET AND ROLL THE
ENGINE AND NOSE FORWARD TO GET AT THE CLUTCH?IF I DO GO THIS ROUTE IS THERE ENOUGH ROOM TO DO IT.
ANY AND ALL TIPS WOULD BE GREATLY APPRIECIATED

Rob, I guess its like everything else; not that difficult once you've done it. Here's an abbreviated procedure on how we did it at my folks' dealership;
Leave the backhoe and loader on the tractor. You block or chain the loader frame up in the air (you also have to block under the loader subframes and torque tube). Cut some wooden wedges to block between the bolster and front axle (to keep the engine from pivoting over once free of subframes). Split between engine and bell housing. With a floor jack under rear of engine, roll engine, rad, and front axle away from bell housing.
Pay attention as to how the clutch plate goes in, its backwards to most set ups. (The hub faces the recess in the flywheel). If you have to pull the tractor back together with bolts, you've probably got it backwards, and will ruin your engine if its run that way very long.
Look carefully at the throwout mechanism, the yoke/dog/sleeve area are major wear points. Hope this helps, email me if you need clarification.
Dale

Thanx for the info! So it is possible, it sure looked it after staring at it for awhile.I'm not going to start the epic until the first of nov. when I will have some time.
Browsed your wed page I'm sure you'll be hearing from me alot.just bought the machine last week and I'm a rookie with this type of equipment.once the clutch is done there a couple of cylinders to rebuild and pins to replace.hope you can help with parts.
By the way "got a clutch?"
thanx again Rob.

I don't think you can actually seperate the nose from the cab if that's what you mean. I'm guessing that you'll have to detach the hoe like you would to get at the transmission which my boss said is a HUGE pain. He had to do that with his 580B x-hoe and almost had to do it with my 580B. Good thing he didn't.

I am not familiar with backhoes but I think on some of them you can split them at the bell housing without having to remove the bucket. Very hard thing to do. Best to have a good mechanic who has done this before by your side.
