Can someone identify the two lugs on the top rear of my generator? It is an AUTO-LITE with regulator on top. Which is the field leed?

most times the posts are different .... small is field ....when in doubt look inside ...field goes to the fields.. armature goes to a brush... ground goes to a brush... feild hooks to a brush on other end, wether its a 2 or 3 brush generator.. if a 2 brush its with the armature brush... 3 brush its the 3rd brush. hope this helps

Klyde, Thanks. Can you tell me... when you look inside the regulator, there is a light coil covered with paper and a heavy wire coil. Does one of these go to the field?

heavy wire wound coil goes to armature, contact points should be open when not running. light wired coil goes to field, and contactsshould be closed when not running
