I've been working on a 580c that has been riden hard and put away wet. I checked the fan belt and it is loose. I went to tighten it but the alternator is all the way out on the bracket. I was looking at trying to change the belt but there is not enough room around the fan and the cowling and it looks like the hydraulic pump has to be disconected to get the belt over it. I have just changed the hydraulic oil and I am not looking forward to draining that system again. Is there a trick to changing this belt? Do people just put on an alternator bracket that goes out a little further? The belt does not look bad it is just loose.

Thanks for the replies and email. I tried to move the hydraulic pump out a little but it wouldn't budge. I ended up moving the front motor mount which supports the pump. My heart started racing when the front of the engine dropped about a quarter inch. I pried the pump and mount forward enough to get the belt through and put it back together. I had to raise the front of the engine back into place using a crowbar and tie down strap to get the motor mount back on. It went back together ok but I haven't started it up yet. I had to go to work. I hope I didn't hurt anything when I took off the front motor mount. The only thing holding the engine up was the rear motor mounts and bell housing. How concerned should I be?

Its a little tricky but you can move the pump far enough ahead to get the belt thru.
