Anyone know how many gallons of hydraulic oil a 1971 David Brown 880 Selectamatic holds?

Also, can anyone recommend a brand/name/weight/type of hydraulic oil to use in it?

Lastly, is it safe to dump the hydraulic oil, fill it up with diesel and run the hydraulics for a minute or so to flush things out (someone told me to do this, just want to be sure it won't tear anything up)?

Put in a 20 liter pail of transmission hydraulic fluid. David Brown tractors are not picky on what brand to use. You can use a diesel fuel flush for a short period, but do not run it too long, you may ruin your hydraulic pump. I would just add a liter of methyl hydrate, the same stuff that is used in air brakes. Then change the fluid again after a few hours of use. Make sure your shifter boots are in good shape. I have them in stock.

Elmer,

You're in Canada, right? Is there any extra cost to ship parts and things from there to here (Texas)?

I need the hydraulic filter as well. Actually, I need ALL filters for everything (engine and hydraulics) as well as a hose for the power steering (the one that connects on the top side of the steering ram) the one below is in good shape.

I've also noticed that the hydraulics slowly sag down on their own with the shredder weight on it and I have to bump it back up every few minutes. Is this a sign of a bad control valve, or could the bypass valve just be gunked up? Maybe the o-ring?
