I have a 1952 SC with oil bath air cleaner. How much oil is supposed to be in the oil cannister at the bottom of the air cleaner? Also, it only runs good with the choke clear out. What do I do to get it adjusted, the standard adjustments don't do it. Thanks

Red- this might mean nothing-I don't know but here goes- these carb's have a choke lever with 2 holes, make sure your choke rod is in the BOTTOM hole. if it is in the top hole, the choke will work opposite-ie;pull it out and the choke will be off-push in and the chke will be on.

I seem to remember my SC having a "Full" line in the canister, but that was a long time ago. I never got it running long enough to worry about the air cleaner!

I can't see any fill line inside or outside. The tractor was repainted before I got it and I have no idea how deep the oil should be. Was wondering if too little oil would affect the air flow to the carbeurator, and that might be the choke problem. I will look for the two holes too.

Thanks Cliff. Ithought that might be the right height for the oil, but have been hoping someone would confirm it. I will also look into the carbeurator, but not tonight.

RED THE AIR CLEANER CUP HAS A PIPE LIKE SEPERATOR IN IT FILL IT TO THE TOP OF THE PIPE. IHAVE A 49 SC THAT HAD TO BE RICH FOR IT TO RUN THEN IT WOULD FOUL PLUGS. THE CARBUERATOR VENTURI IS TOO LONG INTO THE BOWL OF THE CARB. SHORTEN THE VENTURI TO THE TOP EDGE OF THE BOWL AND RESHAPE. THIS SHOULD FIX YOUR PROBLEM. IT FIXED MINE.

Red,

My "S" series operator's manual says "Replace the baffle and fill the cup with fresh, free-flowing, clean engine oil to the level indicated on the inside of the baffle."

The air cleaner is missing from my tractor, so I've never seen the inside of one to help you out on where the mark is located. I picked up an air cleaner at a salvage yard- but it is so rusty and dented that I can't get the oil cup off to look!

Sorry I couldn't be of more help.
