I am rebuilding the engine and would like to know the best procedure for pre priming the oil pump before start up. Any other suggestions on rebuild are welcome. Thanks MGM

Roger,
It's a Crank driven pump and a A401 6 cyl. diesel. I have used prebuild grease on the main and rod bearing.
Thanks
MGM

Is it a camshaft or crankshaft driven pump? Is it diesel, propane or gasoline? If it's gas or propane, I'd just leave the plugs out & roll it over with the starter, stopping occasionally to give the starter a break. I suppose you could do the same thing if it's a diesel if you already have the injectors out. Did you oil the mains & rods good before assembling them? I as told one time to use white grease on the rods & mains. My '63 930 LP took a while to get oil up to the rocker arms even after it was running.
