Hello,

I've got a shot at a DC 4 and I would like to know what they are going for before I talk price with the owner. The tractor has been sitting shedded for 20 years and it is not stuck but has not been run for a long time. The metal is perfect and the original paint looks good but the motor is a bit dirty. Tires hold air but thats about it. One front wheel is off but sitting next to the tractor.(Looks to be missing one bearing...if anyone knows the size please e-mail me so I can put the wheel back on to pull it home if I buy it).

The owner (widow) said it was parked because the starter fried and they could'nt afford to fix it... they were tired of hand cranking. They had other tractors so they did'nt need it. I have no reason to believe this is not the truth.

Where might the serial number be located so I can find out the year?

Thanks in advance,

Steve

The Case numbers for the bearings are - Outer # 01462AB - Inner # 01544AB. These should be a Timken # 14125 for the outer and # 358 for the inner. I saw 4 DC-4s sell at auction last Saturday and they brought $1400 to $2500.

Steve, unless its gone there should be a serial plate on the dash with number and model, 7 digits. If this is gone you should find it on the rear of the block left side where it bolts to the transmission housing. Subtract 4 from the first two numbers and this will give you the year. If its one of the last ones, IE high numbers, check the serial number link on the left here and it will give you the year then. Can't help with the bearing.

Thanks.

This is a Case DC-4, serial number DC4611282, new oaint and decals, 12-volt alternator, all new points, plugs, plug wiring, and wiring harness. Front and rear wheel weights, new rear tires, front tires 99%, new battery, has hydraulic pump mounted on the back, cast grille. Beautiful runner.

Can you give me a value range? Thanks.

Steve,
If the serial number starts with 4 or 5 than subtract 4 from the first two numbers for the year-for instance 5200000 would be 1948. If it starts with 80 than it is a very late model (1953). I would say 500-750.00 would buy you a decent non running DC. The price goes up with better tires, paint, good running engine, etc. Do you know if it has live hydraulics, Eagle Hitch, foot clutch, or live power? These are nice options if you intend to actually use the tractor for work and may make it worth more. Good Luck
