We recently purchased an old backhoe and after a couple of weeks noted that we had to change many of the hoses on the hoe section. After we reassembled everything it worked for about 5 hours and then the steering quit. When you turn the steering wheel it has no affect on the small hydraulic rams that turn the wheels. We did ensure that the oil level in the arm on the left hand side (drivers side) is full. Can any ony lead me to a picture file of exactly how the steering works on the peice of equipment?

If your backhoe is a 580B the steering system is seperate from the hydraulic system. You might want to start by checking the oil level in the power steering reservior on the right side of the engine toward the front. There is a cap about an inch and a half in diameter that you unscrew and it has a dipstick on it.
