Friend of mine wants to sell his grandfather's 930LP that is stuck. Is this going to be another hole to pour money in or will it be worth something if I repair it?

I think it is a '66 model but I haven't checked the serial yet. Dad used to have a '63 diesel with a hand clutch and a '66 diesel with 3pt and adjustable front axle. This LP is just like the '66. Now maybe ya'll think that is bad because grandson is getting rid of grandad's tractor after he's dead and gone. Nooooo oo..... Grandson bought a 970 so grandad would have something to drive that didn't have one of those da@#$ cabs where he couldn't see to cultivate soybeans. Keep in mind this grandad is 92 years young and drives a tractor or deer hunts every day. I guess one reason I'm hesitant to buy the tractor is I don't want to get beaten by his set of crutches.

Scott
I could have bought running 930LP with a meade cab on it last summer for 1400.00 It had great tin and grill. They had a front tank on it so that protected the front. It had decent rubber on it. There was no pto or 3 pt. Kind of limits what you can do with it. The only thing it needed was a kit in the lp regulator. I've been told by knowledgeable case people that there is a fair number of these out in Kansas and Colorado and they go pretty cheap. You might want to research it a bit before you buy. Just my 2 cents worth.
Good luck on your venture.

Thanks for the encouragement. I guess I just wanted a pep talk before trying to tackle another one. I could really enjoy restoration if this darn farming didn't keep getting in my way. By the way, the tractor has original engine and transmission. Only the hydraulic pump has been replaced on it. Thanks

Go for it. If its lp you may not have to do much more than get it unstuck. The lp units burned pretty clean.

We just bought a 930(940)Case LP Western Special. We colect IH tractors, and this tractor sold so cheap we bought it. It is truly a nice tractor. Good strong old tractor. We do a lot of plowing at plow day events and hope to pull 5-14's on her. Buy it you'll be happy.

I don't know about 930LP ,but can tell you the diesel we had ,new in 63 would pull 6 - 16's all day with power to spare.Case was not a company to boast on horsepower. Their motto was(lets talk torque) Thats the stuff that counts. I assume that you will have plenty of stuff to pull that plow.Buy it. At present I have 2 900's both diesel. One has steel wheels(for plowing gumbo and mesquite roots)Love 'em both.Ol Chief.

Just an after thought. Before you drop that plow in the ground ask your local Case dealer to lend you his drawbar dynomometer or better yet,ask him for advice and or help in setting your plow. You can set your plow best by measuring and reading pull then fine tuning the implement, then read again to get optimmum work, with least effort. If dealer does not have this instrument the Case block service manager will have one.
