Here's a real nice horror story, and the reason why I do all my own mechanic work, even if I'm learning in the process, as you all know from my vac,vai posts. I had a friend recently move down here to Star from Lubbock. He told me he had left a big Case tractor up there and wanted to know if he should bother bringing it down here. It's a case 841 w/ a 800(i think) loader. It's complete, propane, has a decent loader, and was not to long ago, a running driving tractor. The mechanics shop he had left it at told him the engine was stuck, and proceeded to remove the heads, intake, exhaust and all other items to get to the cylinders. Well I am nothing more than a shadetree mechanic, and never claimed to be nothing more, but I talked him into bringing it home and sending it to me for a second opinion. Good thing, now it just needs a starter rebuild and a set of gaskets, since they disassembled the whole dang top end. The engine is not stuck, only the starter. THAT is a very good reason why I like to do my own stuff. I have had the same exact problem with a vehicle, only the alternator stuck, and wouldn't allow the engine to turn over, they quoted me 2500.00 for a rebuilt engine and let's see, I fixed it with a 100.00 dollar alternator. No Contest. Thanks for listening to my rambling, I just had to share this story with you guys. Michael

Here here... I can't trust any mech. tractors cars or otherwise. Even getting work done on the house is not worth paying someone else to mess it up or worse, in our case, not doing what you want but doing it their way.

I couldn't agree with you more. I would rather make and pay for my own mistakes then I learn something and I know who to be mad at. This forum is not long enough to list all my mistakes but no two of them are the same!

My sentiments exactly! Shops have messed up more of my jobs than I have. `

Amen! After all, the only way to learn is to learn from mistakes, problem is most shops let profits get in the way of morals and good judgement. I would say that 80-85% of shops that I have had to deal with are rude, discourteous, and really don't give a @#$% as long as they see the greenbacks. On the other hand, 90-95% of the shadetree mechanics and guys like yall that I have had dealings with have been really great guys, who have gone out of their way to help and be more than fair. Thanks, Michael
