431 w/188 diesel start and runs great, seems to push a lot of fuel thru engine giving a lot of acidic and diesel stink out of pipe at idle. Spend a lot of time at high RPM and moderate load I don't work it hard, it's mostly a "lawn mower" with the 6' finish mower). Now getting oil out the cap. Original cap is long gone, using push-in screened breather cap. When run for long can see oil building up and dripping out of cap. Looks like a lot of blowby into crankcase pushing oiule up tube. Also getting quite a drip down the side of the engine, apparently from the valve gasket. Is it time for a rebuild? Hate to open it up cause it runs so nice.

Check the air cleaner if oil bath take air hose off. See if it runs better. Check the screen in the upper part of air cleaner can.Do not leave air hose off but just to check.

Was this something you noticed after you switched caps. It's been a while since I've been around a 430,but it seems to me that they have a breather tube that goes from the valve cover and ends near the bottom of the engine. If the original cap was a sealed type that didn't let any air in or out,and you switched it with one that does, you might be smelling the blow-by that used to be piped below. Just a thought.

Check your valves. Sounds like a bent push rod or chipped valve. Seen it on bulldozers quite a few times.

It's not wet but there's a lot of smoke and a more acrid smell than I'm used to. I'd think it was running hot but the temp gage works and it says no.
