We're using an 830 gas engine for our pulling tractor. We're planning on using 830 diesel sleeves and pistons to get 301 cubes and top it off with 830 LP heads. Is this going to work and what else can we do to get MORE HORSES?

Try to find a 301 gas from an 870 case and go from their with your carb modifications. This engine will bolt up but requires some drilling on the left front ear for the steering shaft to go through. I pulled a 401 s d years ago and another guy pulled a 400 gas in the same class. He ran 336cuin.

That will work well have seen it done before. As far as more power might have the cam done hot coil and if you can get away with it a MSD box. Good luck

What carb should we use? Is stock 830 enough? Also, am I going to have trouble over-riding the governor to get more rpm?

if i remember right a 830 gas block is not 301cu in. and the diesel is 301 you have to get the gas block board out to fit the slieves then you may have to make your own head gaskets because of the over bore i think gas and diesel might have a diffrent head bolt patters i know the do on the 700 and 730 for sure. you might want to go get a complete 830 diesel engine and go diesel they do better in the long run in pullin ive tryed both and you cant beat the torque of the diesel i hope i helped give me a call 812-394-5704 if you need more info ive pulled case a case700 diesel for 4 years now and had to learn it all the hard way but now we can make 730 and 830 JD tractors look like a 9n at the pulls note the Buckmaster 700

You are right about the gas not being 301. It's 284. But the sleeves from the diesel will drop right in because they have 1/16 inch thinner walls. However, I do need some help clearing up the matter about the head gaskets. Remember, I'm using LP block and LP heads. Shouldn't they bolt right up since the sleeve hole is the same size? Also need help with carb suggestions. Thanks!
