Previously I owned three 448's and the thing I had the most problem with was the solenoid. Burned out 4 of them. As Les said jump accross the solenoid> Use to be able to start mine that way till I got a new one.

See if you can jump it using a screwdriver or prick punch or something like that that you don't care if it gets scorched. If you use a wire, make it a heavy one. (Like I said in my previous post somewhere down below, I have started my AC garden tractor like that with a Phillips screwdriver more than I have with the key. It's either that or find and bypass the safety switches as klyde says. I think my tractor has 3 or 4 of the darn things.)

belt is pretty simple-down on right 1/4 turn twist into v-idler, bottom of driven out over the top, under backside idler(with spring), 1/4 turn twist back to drive pully--- solenoid has safety switch primary ground circut (1 wire goes to ign. switch , other goes to pto safty switch then to nutral switch, ground is supplyed by travel lever so you have to make sure its grounded! WIIL NOT START WITH PEDAL DEPRESSED!!! that pulls the travel lever away from the nutral switch. easy as I can make it sound.. later Klyde
