1835b loosing power at WOT

I am looking for clues guys. I have an '86 1835b with the 188 diesel. It starts fine and idles fine, when throttle is opened up it will operate properly for a few minutes then bog down to what seems like 3/4 speed and pumps out the blue smoke. When you return to idle it idles fine. Needless to say power leaves as well.

When in this state bucket and lift arm operation doesn't seem to have an effect on engine nor does wheel movement except for the load imposed by moving.

This has happened before and changing the filter corrected the problem ( I can understand how air starving could cause this condition). Now it runs like this even with the intake tube removed. I have changed air and fuel filters and changed the engine oil and filter.

How can I seperate wether this is an engine problem or a hydraulics draggin the engine down problem?

Any ideas would be welcome. Especially welcome if explanation is included.

Thanks
Chuck

could bo a restriction in fuel return line.roosamaster injector pumps will shut down fuel delivery if this occurs.there is a fitting on the top cover of injector pump with a small check valve in it - make sure there is nothing caught in it - clean with commpressed air - cheers from Oz

During the predelivery of Case units several years ago there was an old tale going around about intake obstructions, so it was a nature to inspect the intake. Could this be one of those units?

Do you have a good flow of fuel out of tank? Check fuel return line that also has to have aflow when running. Dose the gov hold even at diffrent rpms. Did this come on fast or slow.Do you use it for lighty or heavey work?

I have not checked the fuel flow yet. This problem came on rather suddenly. The governor seems to keep the engine rpms steady throughout the range. I tend to use the machine in 8 to 10 hour shifts once or twice a week, mainly digging and spreading clay.

How will a fuel restriction cause the engine to burn more oil?
Thanks
Chuck
