I have a Case 1030 with a PTO shaft broken off flush with the face of the rear case. I want to replace it with a 540 rpm shaft (I believe from a 930) but don't know what other parts are needed nor how difficult it is to get the broken shaft out. I believe I'm the only 1030 owner in New Jersey, so information is pretty difficult to find! Thanks in advance.

Hey Case Folks,

Just wanted to follow up with some useful(?) info on my 1030's broken PTO. My 1030 was supplied stock with a 21 spline 1000 rpm PTO shaft. I am going to "convert" it down to a 540 rpm PTO shaft. I found a great Case IH dealer close by me in North Branch, NJ. Here's what I need to complete the job;
(1) pinion gear p/n A32407 ($165),
(1) pinion gear p/n A32420 ($261),
(1) 540 PTO shaft p/n A64592 ($258)
(1) gasket p/n 1342351C1 ($13).

All parts are still new from Case IH and/or new from non-Case aftermarket supply, which means they bought NOS inventory directly from Case. Case IH still supplies the original parts, service and operators manuals too.

That's just under $700 to do this job, 1/6 what I paid for the entire tractor a few years back, and it's a little rich for me. Does anyone out there have these parts in good shape and willing to part with them? I don't want some crusty old rusted junk out of a "parts" tractor that's been in the weather for umpteen years. I'll pay a fair price for decent equipment.

Tom, I'm pretty sure you would have to change the gears inside the pto unit to achieve the correct ratio (unless you want a 540 shaft that turns 1000 rpm). You might be better off going with a complete 540 unit. I'm not a Case expert, just my experience with one tractor (1030). DonL provided my parts, no complaints. Gary
