My differential brakes have a serious grabbing problem. I've even fractured the differential. Ugh. But now I repaired it, and the grabbing still exists. I believe the gear spacing is the problem. Can anyone enlighten me on how to eliminate the problem? I'm deathly affraid of having the differential break again.

Gregg; I've found that the most common cause of grabbing brakes in CASE tractors is oil seeping into the brake housing. If you haven't already done it, completely disassemble both sides, look for oil, or oil soaked discs, and check the actuater; balls, springs, wear. Good luck John

JD CASE IHC WHITE OLIVER MIMIE MO all use that brakeing system. Those brakes are self energizing if not right you can drag your heels and stop or touch the brakes and you are over the steering wheel.Put in brake lineings and center section new not used. When I did did it this way it was night and day difference.

I also have a 430 and have fought this problem (and still am) over the years. I also snapped the differential lock shaft...what a job to replace!
I found that you must use the correct linings - there are two different ones for each side. Also, even a little rust or dampness will cause the brakes to grab. Finally, make sure that the ball bearings and grooves are smooth in the brake assembly.

Well. Now I have to admit something. I cracked my differential. Not once. But TWICE! Can you imagine how I felt when I heard that cracking noise? I was on a steep hill and had to go get the crane to drag it down. I will investigate the balls again. I thought it was the spacing between the special gears that carry the brake wheel thing, and the differential. You know, if there is too much of a spacer then the gears have a bigger gap between the diff. spider gears, and I think the brakes can grab. That could be totally wrong. And the books show the brake wheel things installed two ways. I don't think that matters though. By the way, I saw one of these tractors at work at a gravel company last week! Thanks much

you should investigate your balls evry once in a while and irrigate them often for proper functioning
