i replaced the head gaskets on a 400 for my neighbor and noticed that the rear powercell has the paint burnt off of it. i ve worked on several olivers with this style of fuel injection and have never had one of them get hot enoughto burn you when touched.he has the fuel turned up quite a bit but it only does it on #4.any ideas would be helpful.

Frisco; I've seen it on my own CASE, but eeverything seems fine. The biggest thing you can do is to retorque those headgaskets. My experience says to do it. When warm, back the bolt off 90 degrees and bring back to torque. Do 1 bolt at a time as per sequence.

thanks for your reply john. i had planned to retorque the heads but didnt know to back them off first. ive overhauled several oliver diesels and never retorqued the heads until i did my 880 puller.that head gasket only lasted 10 runs, retorqued the second one and havent had any more trouble.thanks again for the info! frisco
