Is there a standard on the 311 to 310 exhaust? I am using a 310 hood assy. on a 311. so does the exhaust go down like a 310 or shoot up and if so how did side curtains work. not enough 311's to look at on the internet. is there something I am missing? are these tractors that rare? I am almost finished with my restoration! please send pictures of any 311's restored.seen just a few on the gallery! thanks!!Gary

My 311 has the side exhaust which runs under the rear axle. George is right, your left foot gets hot. I added a baffle to mine. I cut some tin, (about 18" x 10",) formed it into a curve, attached a couple L brackets, then clamped it to the exhaust with hose clamps. Helped quite a bit.
Also added blinking yellow lights to mine. (Law in OH) Got an IH rotary light switch to connect them & the rear light to. Fastened the switch in the dash. Looks like it came on tractor.

I have a 311. The exhaust goes down. I am pretty sure that I have seen them with a cut out in the corner of the side panel for the exhaust to come out the top. As well as I remember, there was an elbow that routed the pipe around the hood and up.

You didn't say if it was gas or diesel . I think the diesel came without side panels.

Gary,

I have in my grubby little paws,an operators manual for 300 series tractors . The pictures in the front of 310 and 311 show both with rear exaust , except for diesel which is up thru the hood just to the right of the hinged top . We bought a 310 new and it had rear exaust , if you worked that tractor hard all day your left foot would cook ,I changed to upright ex about 1960 . Move cap to other port in manifold and use elbow with drip hole in the bottom , cut a slot in sliding side panel to clear stack , it works much better and tractor is still running well. george

I have a case 300, I restored a few years ago,
My tractor is gas, its a 1955 model, it has the exhaust out the side, not under, it has a elbow for the side curtians,to fit around,
ps my tractor is also a around nose.

If memory serves me right the "300" series were exhausts coming out the bottom and they changed to the upright version on the "350" series. They didn't change anything else other than a larger cubic motor so all you would need is a different side panel and the exhaust elbow.
