Hydraulic fittings leak

The front end loader on our 1968 tractor has a mixture of rubber hoses and steel pipes. The fittings (connectors) on both are leaking. What care must be taken when replacing or fixing the fittings?

Is there a way to drain the hydraulic fluids from the lines? Will they need to be bled (and how) after the repairs are completed?

The tractor uses a combined transmission and hydraulic supply.

Before you buy new lines, try this.

Caterpillar sells little copper gaskets to put into the fittings to stop leaks. This is a lot cheaper than new lines. I would assume that if you looked arrond, you could find them at other places besides Caterpillar.

Also try using some sealer on the joints. Make sure the joints are 100% oil free before you apply the sealer, and take care to only put it on the male end of the fitting, so as not to get any sealer into the lines. Try breal parts cleaner to remove the oil.

There is no need to bleed the air out of the system.
