I need some info about black knights. 1. do originals have any kind of code in the serial number to I.D that it is a black knight? 2. were they 1070 and 1470 only or did they go from 970 to 1470 as a black knight? 3. what is a fair price for one in fair to good condition

The serial number has no indication of being a "demo". The left side panel above engine did have the bronze tag with inscription that read: "This unit is a regular production tractor built as a demonstrator for (dealer name)". There were knights made in the garden tractor line and models from 770 thru 1170, and 1470. JR

Yea the ones with the desert sunset cab is a demonstrator and I have one of those in an 870. My aunt and uncle owned a case dealership for forty years up until 79, but she couldn't remeber much (she's 85) but she thought the first two numbers ofa Black Knight (black cab) started with an 83 but wasn't sure. She also thought that they were only issued one per dealer in 1970 and the program went so well that each dealer got another in 1971. But like I said her memory is a little shakey, But I have found a black knight that is in pretty decent shape but I don't know how to confirm if it is a true black knight.

We have a 1070 and i don't think there is any code not sure. There are 1170 1070 1470 and 970. There was to different kinds of Black knights. One had a yellow cab and black hood with gold stirpes other one was black cab with the black hood and gold stripes. Now that i think of it. i don't knwo if the yellow cabs were black knights or if they was just demonstrators. someone else might beable to help. There is a picture of 2 1070 black knights in the Tractor photos one with the cab is mine.

Quoting Stonehouse & Brumbaugh's JI CASE: Agricultural & Construction Equipment 1956-1994
published by ASAE:
There were two types of demontrators-Golden Harvesters & Black Knights. Golden Harvesters had
flambeau bodies, black hoods, and desert sunset cabs, fenders & fuel tanks.
Black Knights had flambeau bodies and eveything else was black.
There is a Golden Harvester about 30 miles west of Great Falls MT that is still in regular use.
I eventually intend to have a complete set of 1/16
scale Knights.
