I bought a big case eagle at a yard sale today. It's about 4-5 feet tall and has an eagle sitting on top of a globe. Paid $150 for it. Not sure what it is made out of, but it is heavy. Does anybody know the story behind these big eagles ?

A better link is www.ashland.edu/colleges/eagles.html

This site gives a history of Ashland University and how it acquired the eagles from J.I. Case.

Visit the Ashland University Web Site at www.Ashland.edu. Case supposedly gave all of these eagles to Ashland University when Ashland changes their mascot from the Purple Titans to the Ashland Eagles. There are approximately 15 left on the Ashland, Ohio campus. Case also gave the the rights to use the trademarked likeness of the eagle. Over the years, several have been stolen from campus. It would be interesting to know if this is one of the eagles stolen from campus. The eagles range in size from about 3-4 feet tall to over 10 foot tall. The largest one is in front of the athletic center. The globe was cut on half so that only the top half the eagle is perched on still exists. I don't know how to post pictures on this site, but could send you some digital jpegs of some of the ones on campus. You are right, they are worth a whole lot of money. However, they are property of the University.

I don't have a way to put a picture of it on the internet, but, if you go to articles and click on the story about old abe you will see a one that looks exactly like the one I got. I also figured out it is made of, metal, because there is slight amount of rust on the back.

Jeb,
I'll tell you what its worth if you'll send me the names of the Case dealers you know about. You can stop buying lottery tickets-you've won the big one. It's worth between 5 and 10 grand.

Yes, Mccranie farm equipment is still in business. I always get discounts on parts there because it is operated by some of my kinfolk.
I have no idea what year they started, but I will ask. The largest dealership in the tri-county area. Sell both case and JD.
