My 1200 TK had a miss in it. Pulled the heads and found that every head was cracked between the valves. Had them welded by a company that specializes in it. Put them back on with the standard fire rings (0.072" thick). All but one cylinder was putting pressure in radiator when setting the valves. Took them off, had them pressure checked thru the water jackets at 40 psi - all were good. Put heads back on with new gaskets and oversize fire rings (0.80" thick)and now have pressure in the radiator from all cylinders. It is not as bad as with the standard rings, but it is still there. Straight edged the head and it semms fine. Torqued according to spec. Not sure what to do and running out of patience. Any ideas? Anyone have 451 turbo heads? I will start it up, retorque heads and pray. Jeff in WI, what's going on?

started her up tonight, appears no compression in the radiator. Ran like a raped ape! Tomorrow I will pull her out and let her run for awhile. Wish I knew what was going on or if I have it fixed (or if it fixed itself or if I am just nuts).

I've worked on several engines that had to run and warm up before the head gaskets sealed. The last was a 1978 Ford Ambulance with a 460 in it. Did a valve job on it from under the dash! Took 10 minutes of running before the white smoke and burnt antifreeze smell stopped. Nastiest valve job I've ever done! Didn't want to have to start over. Has been running great for 3 mos. now. Best of luck with yours. Make sure you retorque your heads properly!!!
