A local impliment dealer in town here has a 1212 Case D/B with a Case (60?) loader on it. Stopped in today to price it, ask about it. He says I don't want it, (he knows I'm looking to trade a 454 International gas for something). Says the P.T.O. won't dis-engage, and the 4 range selector does nothing. I didn't start the machine as the battery is either flat or unhooked, and he made no mention of trying to start it for me.My questions are , if these 2 problems are common on these makes of tractor, and how deep the fix is,(odds are). This tractor is alot bigger than I need as I'm wanting a "utility" type tractor with a loader just for light duty stuff, pasture clipping, hay raking, feeding round bales ect. but, if the price is good enough, the extra power can't hurt anything, I normally don't run enough hours a year to worry about fuel consumption. Any feedback appreciated. Sam

Hey Jeb, Elmer, thanks for the replies, advice. This 1212 has the 4 range selector on the lower right of the dash, kinda in front and to the left of right knee sitting on tractor seat. Does this make it a "power shift " ? I imagine it does, as it looks like a cable assembly runs from the selector to the front of gearbox case or bell housing area. As far as being close, well, I'm in western KY. here, pretty fer peice up to your neck of the woods :). Again thanks for the input. Sam

If the power shift is out of the tractor you better leave it there. They are too costly to fix. They are a very reliable transmission but if it has been abused and needs rebuilding parts are very expensive. If you are close to me and want to change it over to a 12 speed standard transmission i have an assembly here. Ontario. They are very fuel efficient.

The only problem I know of is PTO clutch trouble.
My 1290 is on its third clutch and it is about gone. It was built by David Brown also. Wait and get a reply from Elmer, he is the David Brown man on the board.
