I have a 580c backhoe that has been losing brake fluid. I determined the fluid was going out the left slave cylinder. After pulling the brake housing I also determined that the outboard disk material had come off the brake disc. Ever since I bought the backhoe the right brake has had good pedal height but no stopping power. After pulling the housing I realized everything was soaked in gear lube. Can I relign the pads and shoes myself and rebuild the slaves or am I gonna have to buy new. Anybody know any good suppliers of parts?

The 580C Brakes are a breeze. One word of caution though, Don't try to reline the disks or bands without the proper punch. When you don't use the proper punch the rivets won't roll correctly and the brake material will be loose. Also replace the return springs while you there and the brakes will feel a lot better for a longer period. Good luck.

Case is a good source for parts. One problem with the right side though, it has 3 seals that can leak. Two of them are very small and side by side inside of the larger splined shaft. The job can be done by most anyone with some mechanic experience. Best get a manual so it can show you what you are getting into.
