i am currently working on a friends tractor and would like some information on properly setting th ingnition timing . he does not have a manual on this tractor. so it is a guessing game . i assume the number1 cylinder is at the front of the egine block on this tractor. i set the number 1 cylinder on the compression stroke , aligned the rotor button with the number 1 plug wire location and could not get it to start. i have spark to the plugs and gas to the carb. is this the right way to time this tractor? any ideas or suggestions will be greatly appreaciated. thanks in advance ,joey

Should be a plug in the lower left sde of the torque tube. When you take it out you shoud see the timeing pointer pin and the flywheel. Turn the motor over until number 1 is comming up on the compression stroke. Keep turning until the IGN mark on the flywheel lines up with the pin. Take the distibutor cap off and turn the rotor clockwise to take out the slack. The points should be just starting to open. If not turn the distributor body until it is set in the right spot.

Not sure which is the number 1 cylinder. But the firing order is 1 3 4 2.
