Which way is the manifold lever supposed to be turned on a 1945 kerosene tractor to make it run hot for burning kerosene fuel? Is the spring loaded starter button the same on the "S" series as it is on the "D,R, and V" series? I see new ones for sale, but it doesn't say that they fit the "S" series.

Hi Myron,

From the CASE library- (grin)

HEAT REGULATOR VALVE:

"Always close the radiator shutters completely when starting a low-cost fuel equipped tractor. Set the manifold heat regulator valve in the HOT position by pushing the lever to the right- (towards the rear of the tractor)- as far as possible.

STARTING SWITCH:

The switches seem to be the same part number for both the "S" series and "D" series- but the posts are listed as having different lengths. Here's both of the descriptions-

The "S" series starter switch is Part # 04981AB, (screw 1/4" X 1/2" rhd. mach., N.C. thread. Nut- 1/4" hex., light, N.C. thread. Washer- 1/4" std. lock.)

The "D" series starter switch is Part # 04981AB, (Bolt, 1/4" X 3/4" round head stove, with nut. Washer- 1/4" standard lock.)

Talk to you later, -Schotte

Do the instructions say when the valve should be switched back the other way, off the the hot setting. I think it has at least 5 different positions to choose from. Perhaps the position to be selected is based on engine temperature?

Don't know about the manifold, but do know that the D & S Series starter buttons are the same-also the same ones work on H & M Farmalls. (My $0.02 worth. jal-SD)
