I have an 801B adjustable widefront #8140416. The book I use describes the 800 Series are Model Year 1958, 800B Series as Model Year 1959 & 1960. These Model Years were used to tell dealers the trade-in value and the loan value for the corresponding years. Looking thru the list of serial numbers is when things change. Models 200B, 210B, 300B, 310B, 320B, 400B, 420B, 500B, & 600B have serial numbers associated with each model. There are NO serial numbers listed for models 700B, 800B, or 900B. The only numbers are for models 700 & 800 together, and model 900 is listed seperately. I beleive the reason is that the 700, 700B, 800, & 800B were made at random on the same production line, with consecutive serial numbers: therefore the powers that be decided to list all four models under the 700 & 800 serial numbers. The same for the 900 & 900B Series. The book gives the 700 & 800 Series as 1958 starting number 8120001 and 1959 starting number as 8140001. These numbers are under the heading "Year Made" .Since there are no 1957 serial numbers, perhaps the Model Year 1958 800s were actualy made in 1958, not 1957. So I conclude that my 801B diesel is Model Year 1960, made in1959. At that time the new car models were coming out 3-4 months prior to the model year. New car production must have started in June or July. Maybe the tractor marketing people had the same idea. I don't think that production for a particular model tractor started January 2 and went thru December 31. You might want to see if you can get a "Build Sheet" from Case/IH. Mike Schotte on this site posted details a few times lately. Hope this is not too confusing..... ..... .Slowpoke
