I just bought an 870 and the pto turns all the time. any thoughts on this?

The pad is indeed worn or the pad holder is broken. We found that problem last year in a 70 series. The first clutch pack housings were perfectly round inside. The newer housings were made a little thicker on one side, so it's elliptical and the pads do a better job of stopping and last longer.

Most likely the brake pad on the pto is wore out. Should be cheap and easy to fix.

Shane; Isn't that brake adjustable like the earlier tractors? That's assuming that hyd. pressure isn't going to the clutch pack for some reason. John

I believe that it is supposed to be automatically adjusted as it wears. But if it is wore too much then it won't work anymore.
