Hey, I'm new to this board but I feel the readers of this forum are very knowledgable and could possibly help me out significantly. I have a small farm in So/Cent PA. I've done all of my farming the past several years with 3 half restored farmall H's and one Oliver 88. Some of the work that I've been running into requires a larger tractor. I've been looking at a case 1490. This horsepower should get me over the hump but frankly I don't know the tractor very well. Its shed kept(clean) with about 4000hrs. My question... is there any particular areas that I should be looking. Are these tractors notorious for any problems that may break my shallow piggy bank. Thanks already!!

MG

Hey Mag.
4000 hours is not bad. DBīs are not very easy to
start below freezing point. I donīt know what you
are going to use it for but donīt load the 3-point
to heavy.
Best wishes, Jens Andersen, Denmark

Thanks!! I have an IH 450 16" plow and a small chisel plow that I was considering using the piece for. Currently I rent JD's (4020) in the spring for this type of work at a reasonable price. From what you stated this might be the way to go considering the weak 3pt. Also, is there anything personally I could do to help it start during cold temps. Thanks...

There is a manifold glow plug on the tractor to assist in cold starting. It will start no problem. If you have to put a circulating block heater on it. the tractor only has 70hp, no where near what the 4020 has.
