Bent push rods

When I got my SC I was told it would run but poorly. I pulled the valve cover and found both push rods on #3 cylinder bent. I pulled the head and all looks okay. I'm going to take the head into a head shop for a good inspection anyway.

I pulled the oil pan and everything looks good here too.

Are bent push rods common for SC's? If so I'd like to know the cause.

Thanks, Tony

Stuck valves and lack of lubrication to the head will also cause it. Run the tractor a little before you put the valve cover back on to make sure oil is getting to the head and to all the rocker arms.

Just went through this on my 1410, a little squirt of ether was all it took to bend both on #4.

They bend from stuck or sticking valves. Have the shop do a valve job and check the head. Put it back on and run it for another 50+ years. it's a Case.
