Well, it's been awhile...after being lifted Internet access at work (gee, I thought tractors WERE work oriented?), and after the wife put on a new, not-so-improved operating system here at home, I am finally on-line and functioning again. I could have been on a little quicker but the damn blizzard of the week left about 12 ft drifts here to contend with. Worked the devil out of the big tractor. Lots of new names out here, and a few old faces. Looks like Mike S. almost has his DC fully functioning and painted a nice acrylic enamel! I poked thru a couple pages of posts on the other boards and noticed a lack of some oldies? What happened on the 8N board? No Belch Dave, Willy 8N, just Claus and Dell...

For me the Cross-Motor is no closer to running than it was last fall...too da#n much weather this year. But the SI pulled it's weight proudly by getting the big tractor out of some sizeable drifts during the dig-out. We couldn't have gotten to the highway for weeks without it. I could get a loader full of snow with the 1026 but then the weigh left the rear end light enough it wouldn't pull itself back up the hill. Eight chains and a pull strap on the SI made it happen, and it also looked good to see the little tractor pulling the big one up the hill! Haven't seen a Case for sale here all winter. The green ones are going alot cheaper than they had been, and the Ford 8's and 9N are all over 5 grand? The 50 to 80 horse are going cheaper than them...makes you wonder.
Just thought I'd check in an let everybody know I'm back and kickin'...good to be here again...Baggsy

Good to have ya back! Glad to hear that everything's been good with you and the crew. Sure was curious as to how the cross motor project was coming along, too. Welcome back...

Hey Baggsy! - I'm sure glad to see you back in the fold... I'd almost given up hope.

I've got a package all ready to put in the mail for your old SI, and had been debating whether or not to send it. Glad to hear the old girl is still earning her keep.

Lots for us to catch up on whenever you've got the time. Any news on the hit-n-miss engines?

Hope the boys are doing well.

It's been too long Mike! I gotta say I missed our conversations and dialog. What Kind of package you got for me? I'm on eggshells now! I gotta look back thru the archives and see what I missed. Have you mastered the black art of Magnetos yet?

Hi Jeff,

So much has happened while you've been away. I think I told you that around Christmas time three more Cases followed me home... and I really don't know how that happened. (grin)

The '49 DC-3 project still sits untouched- but I've gotten quite a few parts and manuals for it now and they are stored up for when I get around to attacking it.

Nothing's really happened on the '45 parts SC, except that I'm still burning the cylinders to try and see if I can salvage those aftermarket button top aluminum pistons. I found out that it's got a slotted hand crank hole, and it was cast that way from the factory. This is something that Don Livingston, Dave Erb, and Ed Axthelm hadn't ever seen before. Think I'm going to send a picture of it into Old Abe's News to see if they can solve the mystery.

The "parts" '49SC tractor now has it's engine freed up, but one pesky valve still is being stubborn and stuck. I've got a spare magneto and carb all ready for it- so I may have this one running before too long.

Bought some new gauges for my favorite '49SC, but I haven't installed them yet. Got a new steering wheel and steering column, too- so I can finally retire that Chevy steering wheel back to the van that it must have originally come from.

To answer your question- I feel pretty confident in my mastery of the IH H4 magneto- but I haven't mastered the Case magnetos yet. Got a few of them to tinker when Paul fixes me up with some spare parts for them.

With regards to your package- I'll let it be a surprise. I think you'll like it and find it useful, too.

I was originally planning to send that 7" Guide light that I bought for you at the salvage auction- but I didn't know whether you needed it or not. There are photos of it in my photo album if you want to see it. (The mounting is not for a Case.)

If you get a chance- check out my tractor photo galleries- there's lots of rusty junk to see (and a few SI photos, too.) As you can tell, I've become a DIGITAL packrat, as well! (grin)
