I have a later model 930 diesel that appears to be leaking oil between two of the heads. It doesnt run hot, or have water in oil or vice versa, just a little oil seeping from between the heads. I cant be sure but it may bubble slightly, although it may be the wind off the fan doing this. My question is do you think that retorking the heads would solve the problem, or is it more serious? Also, what is the tork specs, and what is the bolt sequence I should follow. I have heard a lot about cracked heads on these tractors, and thats what worries me. It has 4500 hours and hasnt had a wrench on the engine except to replace a leaking water pump once. Alot of power, with not much fuel use, nice tractor. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks, John.

I have a 930 with 8500 hrs. and the last time the heads were off it had 2800 hrs. I have no leaks and no cracks. I even put the bigger fan pulley off a 830. I find it cools better with the big pulley. WHY!? A fan will only run so fast and the rpm's of the 930 with the small pulley is too fast. You find with the stock pulley it will stop turning any faster after a given rpm. and your belts just slip and wear the pulleys out. with the bigger pulley you slow the fan and the bigger pulley also has more belt surface and so you don't have to run your belts fiddle string tight saves gen. or alt. and fan bearings too. you actually get more water cirilating. I've run this tractor with this pulley arrangement for at least 6000 hrs.

30 series head gaskets sometimes had a problem of leaking at a corner of the head. The first 70 series were even worse. Case fixed the 70 series with a bigger o-ring in the gasket, but the 30 series never was fixed.

My 970 did this when I got it. It was explained to me that the head is walking (moving just a little) on the block. If it is run this way for to long it will wear on the block and when you do fix it you would have to plane the block, and cut new counterbores. If you replace the head gaskets now before the block shows wear the gaskets will fix the problem. I replaced all 3 head gaskets on my 970 and you could see where the one head had been moving on the block. The head gaskets fixed the problem. Make sure the heads are not warped when you put them back on or they will crack. Good Luck
